Brighton boss gives transfer update after Burnley victory

All the reaction from Brighton’s 2-0 Premier League win against Burnley

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler did not rule out further business in the January transfer window after their 2-0 win against Burnley.

The Seagulls enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 triumph against the struggling Clarets thanks to goals from Georginio and Yasin Ayari.

There was also an emotional return for Pascal Gross, who re-signed for the club at the start of the January window, on contract until 2027.

The 34-year-old received a tremendous ovation from the home crowd as was he was introduced into the action on 71 minutes as a second half substitute for impressive debutant Charalampos Kostoulas.

Hurzeler was delighted to welcome Gross back but admitted he was unsure at this stage if further signings will arrive this month.

"[Gross] was the first part but I don't know if some other parts will follow,” said the German.

“The January window in general is very complicated. I always emphasise that in my exchanges with Tony [Bloom] Mike and Paul and we will make the right decisions.

“If the player, the position and the character is the right one then we might do something, but overall I emphasise that we are happy with the players that we have."

Gross has a special connection with Brighton

Hurzeler then spoke in more detail about the impact Gross can have on this team and his special connection to the Brighton fans.

“I think it was special. But it showed how the love is for him, it showed how big his achievement was in the past for Brighton and the supporters are very pleased that he's back now.

“But that was the past and now it's important that we focus on the present and that we get an understanding of how he can play an important part for us in the future.

“I think it was a good start today and now we kept working on the relations between him and the staff and the relations between him and the other players.

“I know that some of the players know him, but there are some new players so we have to build other connections and then I'm sure that he can help us.”

Pascal Gross, speaking to Sky Sports, on his second debut for Brighton, said: "The last two days have been incredibly emotional for me. I haven't trained yet with the squad."
