Albion were not at their fluid best and rode their luck at times but Brighton took the lead in the 15th minute through Solly March as he netted his seventh goal of the season.
After a floodlight failure momentarily plunged the stadium into darkness, referee Peter Bankes stopped the match, apparently because his headset was no longer working.
There was a delay of a couple of minutes before play resumed.
It was perhaps an evening when only the result mattered and in the end Albion’s work-rate paid off and the saw out for the victory. The results adds more pressure on Palace boss Patrick Vieira, while Brighton continue their push for European qualification.
Sam Morton was at the Amex Stadium for Sussex World and here’s the player ratings...

9. March - 8:
Match-winner. March is bang in-form and it showed with his superbly taken finish in the first half. It was his seventh goal this season from midfield and no Brighton player has more in the Premier League in 2022-23. Showed his creative side with a dangerous cross to Mitoma that he couldn't quite get on the end of. Photo: Mike Hewitt

10. Mac Allister - 7:
Quiet in the first-half in an attacking sense but he makes the game look easy and barely put a foot wrong. So close to a goal after the break when his header was saved by Joe Whitworth. Shot narrowly wide with injury-time approaching. Photo: Mike Hewitt

11. Mitoma - 7:
Showed both sides to his game in the first-half with a perfect sliding challenge on Clyne as he prepared to cross before setting up March's opening goal with a perfectly weighted pass. Limited impact in the second half which didn't really get going. Couldn't quite get his head on Estupinan cross. Replaced by Enciso on 79th minute. Photo: ADRIAN DENNIS

12. Welbeck - 6:
No clear cut chances but worked hard in forward areas. Linked up play well. Replaced by Ferguson. Photo: ADRIAN DENNIS
