Danny Welbeck's composed first half finish put Albion in the lead but they were pegged back shortly after the interval as Ezri Konsa fired home from close range after a Jack Grealish set piece.
Solly March however put Albion back into the lead when his curling right-footed strike from Pascal Gross' pass flew beyond Aston Villa stopper Martínez.
It was a hugely entertaining match at Villa Park and it was Albion's second's victory of the Premier League campaign.

5. Adam Webster 6/10
Defended well and played his part in an extremely hard fought victory. Area to improve: his distribution. He continues to needlessly give the ball away in dangerous areas
6. Solly March 8/10
Brilliant right footed goal to get the winner. A serious scare at the end when he dangled a leg and caught Trezeguet in the box. A penalty was given but then overturned after a VAR check...phew!
7. Pascal Gross 7/10
The German has been excellent from Brighton lately. Covers plenty of ground in midfield and provided an assist for March's winner
8. Yves Bissouma 7/10
Another good display from the midfielder who is rapidly becoming a key player for Graham Potter. Worked tirelessly and blocked and tackled superbly
