Brighton striker Danny Welbeck pinpoints where he must improve after Burnley misses

Welbeck, 29, was handed his first Premier League start for Brighton following his summer arrival on a free transfer after a frustrating spell at Watford.

The former Manchester United led the line for Albion and produced an encouraging display but missed two presentable chances in the first half that could have seen Brighton claim all three points.

The first one saw his left footed effort blocked by the feet of Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope and his second was a slightly loose first touch that allowed the Burnley stopper to smother his effort when clean through.

“It’s disappointing, we could have got three points, unfortunately we couldn’t get them," said Welbeck.

“We had a couple of opportunities that we didn’t take. We’ll work on that, we’ll take the point tonight and we’ll move on.

“Nick (Pope) made a good save for the first one. The second one it came over my shoulder. I could have got a better touch but that will come with the match sharpness.

“Minutes are only going to help me. Burnley made it tough for us. We knew the sort of game to expect tonight but we tried our best to get the three points.”

A 0-0 draw at Brighton was enough to lift Burnley off the foot of the Premier League table and the home side went three points clear of the bottom three.

Burnley climbed off the bottom of the Premier League table but remain winless following a goalless draw which extended Brighton’s lengthy wait for a home victory.

Albion sit three points above the relegation zone having gone eight matches without a top-flight victory on home soil.

Burnley captain Ben Mee said: "On the whole, I'm happy with a point. It's a tough place to come. They defended well as a team.

"We've got a lot to work on. But getting a point here is positive.

"No panic. Plenty of games to go, a long way to go."
