Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder is planning a move away from Brighton this January.

Moder, 25, is yet to start a match in the Premier League this season and has only seen eight minutes of league action in late substitute appearances against Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa.

It’s been a frustrating period for the Poland international, who almost joined Leicester last summer as part of Brighton’s bid to land Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

In the end, Dewsbury-Hall opted for Chelsea and Moder has remained well down the pecking order at the Amex Stadium as head coach Fabian Hurzeler has selected the likes of Yasin Ayari, Carlos Baleba, Jack Hinshelwood, Matt O’Riley and Mats Wieffer.

The £12m January signing of Paraguay international Diego Gomez from Inter Miami also pushes Moder further down the list of midfielders.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s struggling Leicester are expected to rekindle their interest this month and Caught Offside reported today that talks have already started, although Everton are also in the running.

Moder, who joined Albion from Lech Pozan for around £9m in 2020, is out of contract this summer and Brighton are reportedly open to a January deal as it’s the last chance they have of receiving a fee.

Everton are believed to be leading the chase ahead of Leicester, although Bundesliga clubs Freiburg and Stuttgart are said to be keeping a close eye on developments.

"He had a long injury, a bad injury,” Hurzeler told Sussex World when asked about Moder last November. “Before this he was an impressive player, it’s also our responsibility to get him back into shape and he’s looking good.

“He needs game time, he needs minutes to get back to the shape and I hope that he will stay fit and he will be training. It is so important, now like all the other players it’s about them and the will and an intrinsic motivation to improve everyday.

"Then I’m sure that he can play an important part in our squad because he has a lot of skills. He’s fast, he’s good with the left and right foot, he can play in several positions so these players are always helpful for the squad.”

Brighton are next in action this Saturday at Norwich City in the third round of the FA Cup.
