Keeping Moises Caicedo at the club was the main piece of business as Albion rejected offers from Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal. Chelsea came in first with an offer of around £50m before Arsenal upped the bid to £55m. The Gunners then returned with £60m in the brief case but that was also quickly rebuffed by Albion. The main outgoing deal this window also involved Arsenal as Belgian attacker Leo Trossard made a £22m switch to the Emirates. Trossard pushed hard for the deal and although it’s a blow for head coach Roberto De Zerbi, the form of Kaoru Mitoma has helped soften the blow. Brighton, who are sixth in the Premier League, also made three additions to their squad and there were many other significant moves as players looked to advance or kick-start their careers elsewhere.
Here Sussex World looks at all 11 deals Albion have made this January and three that didn’t get over the line...
9. Leo Trossard - 8-10
Joins Arsenal in a permanent deal for around £22m plus add-ons. A very talented player and should do well at Arsenal and a shame his time at Brighton ended on a sour note. The right deal for all parties and Albion have Kaoru Mitoma filling the void Photo: Michael Regan
10. Marc O'Mahony
The talented young striker joins the under-21s from Cork City. “I’m sure the progress Evan Ferguson and Andrew Moran have made will really inspire Mark and we are excited to see him develop within our environment," Under-21s head coach Shannon Ruth said. Photo: bhafc
11. Yasin Ayari - 8-10
The 19-year-old Sweden international joined Albion from Swedish team AIK on Monday. He is tipped as one of the most highly promising young midfield talents from across Europe. Could well be another gem. “I am comfortable with the ball, I work hard and run a lot," he said. Photo: bhafc
12. Moises Caicedo - no deal
Brighton rejected huge bids from Chelsea and Arsenal for the midfielder. Caicedo wanted to leave - as made clear by his perhaps ill-advised social media - but Albion held firm and denied a blockbuster move. RDZ now faces the task of of getting his grumpy player motivated to face Bournemouth this Saturday. Photo: Shaun Botterill
