Despite losing star midfielders Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, most Brighton fans were pretty happy with the club’s dealings in the summer transfer window.
Caicedo went to Chelsea for an eye-watering sum of £115m, while Mac Allister moved to Liverpool for the slightly more modest fee of an initial £35m. Goalkeeper Rob Sanchez was also a notable departure as the out-of-favour stopper joined Caicedo at Chelsea for around £25m.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi spoke of the need to improve the squad as this season they will compete in the Premier League, the Euopa League as well as the FA Cup and Carabao. The Seagulls have made a very good start to the new term, winning three and losing one of their opening four top flight fixtures.
As we pause for the international break, we look at the eight players who arrived this summer for a combined total of around £85m and rate each transfer out of 10.

5. James Milner - 9/10
An excellent free transfer addition to the squad. The 38-year-old can play in a variety of positions and will add plenty of experience for the Europa League campaign. Vital off the pitch as well and will be an ideal example to the younger players. Such a competitor! Photo: Alex Broadway

6. Mo Dahoud - 8/10
Once again the early signs look good. Arrived on a free transfer after his stint at Dortmund. A silky smooth player on the ball and the 27-year-old is capable of playing the De Zerbi style from the base of the midfield. Started against Luton ahead of Gilmour but may not turn out to be a regular starter in the Premier League - but will be useful on the European nights. Photo: Mike Hewitt

7. Joan Pedro - 8/10
Brighton's record signing of £30m. Looked razor sharp in pre-season and also scored on his PL debut against Luton from the spot. Looked good against Newcastle alongside Evan Ferguson and despite not scoring, drew praise from De Zerbi. Plenty more to come from Pedro and a potential Brazil international. A large fee but bags of potential for the 21-year-old. Photo: Alex Broadway

8. Ansu fati - 7/10
Plenty of excitement here as Fati arrived on a loan from Barcelona. Brighton are said to be paying 80 per cent of his wages for the season. A huge talent and De Zerbi will demand total commitment to go with the skills. Much to prove but very exciting and Brighton will hope he offers value for money for the season. Photo: JAVIER SORIANO
