David Ornstein issues Femi Azeez and Brighton update after Millwall stance and Wrexham claim
All the latest transfer news and gossip for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League
Winger Femi Azeez is doing all he can to push through a move to Brighton from Millwall.
The Seagulls are keen to land the Nigerian winger as they cope with a mini injury crisis at the start of the new campaign.
First choice wingers Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh are both sidelined with injuries, while attackers Stefanos Tzimas, Geoginio and Jack Hinshelwood are also out.
The future of Minteh is also uncertain as Liverpool look to sign the flying from Brighton for around £70m.
Brighton’s latest bid for Azeez, 25, is believed to be around £12m.
Transfer expert David Ornstein posted: "Femi Azeez tells Millwall of wish to exit + join Brighton & Hove Albion after 3rd offer rejected.
“Latest proposal for right winger above £12m package; still under #Millwall valuation but #BHAFC pursuit ongoing & 25yo wants PL move granted."
The BBC previously reported that fellow Championship club Wrexham are also keen on Azeez but the Nigerian wants a move to Brighton.
We deserved more at Chelsea
Meanwhile, Fabian Hurzeler believes Brighton deserved more after “dominating” Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The visitors went 3-0 down inside half an hour but stormed back to give Xabi Alonso’s side a hugely uncomfortable afternoon, fighting their way to within a goal of the Blues before eventually losing 4-3.
Brighton enjoyed almost 75 per cent possession but were undone by Chelsea’s scintillating counter-attacking play, Romeo Lavia, Pedro Neto and former Seagull Joao Pedro downing them with some clinical finishing.
The home side came under intense pressure once Malick Yalcouye and a Pedro own-goal had made it 3-2 before some individual brilliance from Cole Palmer finished Hurzeler’s team off, leaving the German to rue an opportunity missed.
“I said to the lads that I want to have more belief, the belief that we can come here and compete with (Chelsea),” he said. “Overall I saw a really good Brighton team that tried to control the game, dominate it, and create chances in possession.
“The small margins made the difference and we weren’t at our highest level today. We are responsible for this result.
“That’s a positive to take away, that we could decide how this game ended. We will take plenty of positive things away but also the frustration that the result wasn’t on our side.
“Sometimes there is individual quality on the side of Chelsea. I have the biggest belief in my team and my players that we can compete with every team in the league if we play at our highest level.”
