'I know' - Fabian Hurzeler issues Brighton verdict amid Manchester United claim
All the latest transfer and contract news for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League
Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler does not have a release clause in his contract, according to reports.
Hurzeler, 33, has impressed at Brighton, having joined the club in 2024 from German club St Pauli.
He has guided the Seagulls to two eighth placed finishes in the Premier League and gained qualification the Uefa Conference League.
Brighton have also enjoyed a flying start to this campaign as they sit third in the top flight and are the division's highest scorers with 23 goals from seven matches.
Man United eye Hurzeler
Hurzeler has also steered Brighton into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after a memorable comeback 3-2 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
United are now reportedly interested in prising Hurzeler away from Brighton as they assess their managerial situation.
Michael Carrick is under increasing pressure as United languish in 13th and they also suffered a miserable 4-1 Champions League loss yesterday at Como.
Hurzeler, speaking last week ahead of the win against Crystal Palace, said: “I always enjoy my time here because I mentioned it before, I really enjoy working with my players, and I enjoy it to be surrounded by great staff members.
“I'm enjoying it to be surrounded by a really good owner [Tony Bloom], by a good CEO [Paul Barber], by a good sporting director.
“So I think that's important to have this environment around me where I can express myself. So therefore, of course, now we seem to be in a good place.
“But I know how quick it can change also in this league. I know also where I come from six, seven months ago, how the situation was there.
“But also this time I enjoy it because the people I work with and for me, it's always the people's business. T
“They never change, and they're always there. And I think that's what enjoys me the most to go on a journey with people, with persons, with human beings who are great.
“And no matter if they are players or staff members I think that makes, my life way easier. And therefore of course, everyone would say, because of the results and everything.
“For me, it's more about the connection we have that makes it enjoyable.”
Hurzeler has no release clause
Hurzeler is currently contracted with Brighton until 2029 and the Telegraph reported today that the German does not have a release clause in his contracted.
That means Brighton could command a hefty fee for the manager, who was youngest ever permanent Premier League boss when he joined Albion two years ago.
Brighton are no strangers to this situation. In 2022 former manager Graham Potter left the Amex Stadium to join Chelsea as the Blues paid Brighton around £20m in compensation.
Potter was replaced by Roberto De Zerbi who joined Tottenham last season, via a stint in Marseille.
Albion will not want to lose Hurzeler but chairman Tony Bloom said last month that they are prepared for ever "eventuality" and don't fear losing "any member of staff."
