Ferdi Kadioglu absence explained for Brighton at Manchester City

Brighton full back Ferdi Kadioglu was a notable absentee from Fabian Hutzeler's starting XI at Manchester City.

The Turkey international injured his hip in the 2-0 loss at Liverpool last weekend but was expected to recover in time for today's clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Kadioglu missed the 2-2 penalty shoot-out loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and the swift return to the Etihad arrived just to soon for the former Fenerbahçe man.

Costinha starts again

Portuguese right back Costinha - who played against City on Wednesday in the Carabao - will start in Kadioglu's place once again.

Dutch international Bart Verbruggen is back between the sticks after "cup keeper" Jason Steele was in goal for the shoot-out loss.

£50m record signing Luka Vuskovic also returns to the starting XI and he plays alongside Lewis Dunk in the centre of defence, with Olivier Boscagli at left back.

Hadjam, who impressed at left back in midweek, is on the bench.

Impressive young Spaniard Chema Andres has recovered from his hip injury - also sustained at Liverpool - and plays in midfield alongside the experienced Pascal Gross.

Sweden international Yasin Ayari is expected to play the furthest forward of the midfield three, with Diego Gomez on the right flank and Maxim De Cuyper on the left.

Minteh is on the bench

Look out for fit-again Yankuba Minteh who is on the bench and will likely appear in the second half for his first Premier League minutes of the season.

Greek striker Charalampos Kostoulas will lead the attack with Georginio on the bench.
