Five current Brighton players who do not get the credit they deserve

Here's our five players who have given their best for Albion this campaign for but for one reason or another they haven't always been able to win over the Albion faithful.

Adam Webster

Received plenty of criticism this season following his record breaking £20m move from Bristol City last summer.

Webster is often selected ahead of Shane Duffy as the head coach Graham Potter feels he is more comfortable on the ball and can help build attacks from the back. Both Duffy and Webster are solid at the back but Webster often gets the nod alongside captain Lewis Dunk.

He has had a few tough matches this season and possibly his worst moments were against Sheffield United during the narrow 1-0 loss at the Amex. He showed great character in the next fixture at Tottenham as he scored in the 2-1 defeat on Boxing Day.

Webster has made 23 Premier League appearances so far this campaign and scored three goals. He has mostly proved to be solid defensively and is a genuine threat from set pieces. He is physically strong, quick across the ground and is comfortable with the ball at feet and surging forward.

He is still improving and at 25 years-of-age he will no doubt prove to be a reliable player for Albion for the next four or five seasons.

Pascal Gross

Can often go unnoticed during a match but when you look at his stats, they generally make for impressive reading.

He has made 86 Premier League appearances and scored 12 goals since joining Albion for just £3m from FC Ingolstadt 04. He has created 35 big chances and delivered an impressive 493 crosses.

He has scored twice this season and both were crucial goals. His first was a stinging freekick during the home victory against Everton, while his strike at West Ham helped Albion fight back for a memorable 3-3 draw.

Gross was voted Brighton's player of the season by an overwhelming majority in the 2017-18 but for some reason some fans have been on his back of late.

He may not have the flair of a Knockaert or the skills and tricks of a Trossard but he remains an impressive and consistent Premier League performer for Albion.

Neal Maupay

Despite scoring eight goals so far this season the Frenchman has perhaps unfairly received criticism from some sections.

It's Maupay's first campaign in the top flight following his £16m move from Brentford and he has settled into life at Albion pretty well.

Maupay, 23, is a fiercely competitive character and works extremely hard for the team but above all he has the mentality of goalscorer and wants to score in every match.

For a team struggling at the lower end of the table, eight goals is a decent return. He averages a goal every 264 minutes and also has two assists this season.

He has scored the same amount as Firmino, Dele Alli and Callum Wilson. Similar to Webster, he has gained good experience and he has the talent, attitude and commitment to improve next season.

His goals against Watford, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Arsenal were excellent examples of his instinct in front of goal.

Dale Stephens

The midfielder always seems to receive plenty of stick but for the most part this season, it's been hard to see why.

Albion were playing some good stuff at the start of the campaign and Stephens was a key contributor to that.

He gets criticised for sideways passing but Potter trusts Stephens to carry out his possession based style of football. The head coach has often praised the player for his tactical awareness.

Most of the passing and build up play came through the experienced campaigner and he and Davy Propper were a formidable but calm presence in the central midfield positions.

His form and fitness dipped at the start of the year but he was just starting to regain full-fitness once more when the league was suspended.

The midfielder is now 30 but will likely still have a role to play next season despite the impressive recent form of Yves Bissouma.

Davy Propper

If he's fit he always plays. The Dutch international has been fully committed this season and has delivered some fine performances in the heart of the midfield.

Often criticised for a lack of goals, which he himself admits is sometimes fair. Propper has just the one to his name this season against Wolves but has often played in a deeper role for Graham Potter.

He chipped in with quite a few goals for his previous club PSV but he has just two from 82 appearances for the Albion. At PSV he did play slightly further forward and he was in a team that were often dominating the smaller outfits in the Dutch league.

The 28-year-old is a class act in the Brighton midfield and if he could add goals to his game, he'd be a £50m player. It was good business by the club to extend his contract to June 2023 earlier this season.
