Graham Potter makes honest admission about controversial penalty decision in Manchester United defeat

Brighton boss Graham Potter said he was a 'little surprised' when his side were not awarded a penalty against Manchester United but admitted afterwards that he understood why.

Albion once again left a Premier League game empty handed after taking the lead, as Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood completed a second-half comeback for Manchester United

However, Brighton can feel hard done by, after a huge penalty decision was waved away by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). The scores were tied at 1-1 when goalscorer Danny Welbeck went down under a challenge from Harry Maguire at the back post.

"I was a little surprised it wasn't given live," Potter said. "It felt like a penalty.

"When I watched it back, it looks like a penalty [but] you can understand why VAR didn't overrule it. It is what it is.

"These things happen. It's football.

"You come here to a fantastic football club, with wonderful players, who are pushing for the Champions League and are the second best team in the league. We have to look at ourselves and we have to be better in the second-half."
