'He's a busy man' - Wimbledon star excited by Brighton's summer signings as Fabian Hurzeler eyes visit to SW19

Defending Wimbledon doubles champion Julian Cash says he is excited by Brighton and Hove Albion's summer transfer business – and hopes head coach Fabian Hurzeler will be able to watch him in action at the All England Club.

The Brighton-based tennis player, a lifelong Albion supporter, previously revealed that Hurzeler opted for a Formula 1 outing over a proposed trip to Wimbledon.

The German, 33, also recently had a meeting with Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti. The pair had ‘interesting discussions’ about leadership, creating the right team culture, the demands of international football and the ongoing World Cup.

Asked whether the Brighton boss had since accepted an invitation to SW19, Cash said: “He asked me to come.

"He might be here Wednesday. He's been a busy man."

With Brighton continuing to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season – and UEFA Conference League campaign – Cash said he is optimistic about what lies ahead.

The Seagulls have already added Pascal Struijk from Leeds for around £18m, with defenders Costinha and Michael Svoboda also arriving.

Winger Rodrigo Rego joined from Benfica, and Albion also signed in the in-demand Zadok Yohanna from AIK for around £21m.

It's been a fast start to the window so far with further incomings expected – as Brighton look to smash their transfer record, with the £50m arrival of Croatia defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham.

Vuskovic is expected to complete his medical in the coming days.

"I think it's exciting, 100 per cent," Cash said, looking ahead to the new season.

"We're obviously a club that has to make generally quite a few signings, so every season seems to look a little bit different.

"Last year was fantastic. I think we finished really strong and I'm excited to see the next season."

Cash, who has regularly visited Brighton's training ground in recent years, has maintained close links with the club while enjoying his rise to the top of the doubles game.

Cash, and his doubles partner Lloyd Glasspool, are defending their Wimbledon 2025 title this year. Their round-of-16 win came amidst England’s win over Mexico in the World Cup – with chants of ‘it’s coming home’ adding an extra boost.

The Brits came through a gripping contest against Neil Oberleitner and Petr Nouza, winning 6-3 3-6 7-5 on court three. Their ninth consecutive Wimbledon win means they are now through to the quarter-finals once again – where they will face Mate Pavic and Marcelo Arevalo.
