Jamie Carragher has taken aim at struggling Brighton with a cheeky jibe about the size of the club.

Albion are currently outside of the Premier League’s bottom three on goal difference alone, and could slip further down the table if they lose to Southampton this weekend.

Graham Potter’s men haven’t won a match since they beat Liverpool at Anfield over a month ago, and are well and truly embroiled in a battle for survival at this present moment in time.

As for Carragher’s beloved Reds, their woeful league form has seen them record just one win in their last five matches and slump to eighth in the top flight standings.

Speaking on CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage on Wednesday evening, the pundit made reference to how difficult things have been for Liverpool supporters of late, to which Brighton-obsessed presenter Jules Breach responded: “I still manage to have a smile on my face every day despite being a Brighton fan”.

Carragher replied with a tongue-in-cheek dig, saying: “I know, but you know, it’s just Brighton, isn’t it?”

Breach took exception to his jibe, however, and fired back: “We beat Liverpool!”

Albion are facing a crucial run of games in their battle to pull themselves clear of this season’s relegation dogfight.

Following on from their clash with the Saints this weekend, the Seagulls face fellow struggles Newcastle United before coming up against the high-flying trio of Manchester United, Everton, and Chelsea.

Between now and the end of the season, the only other side they are set to face who are currently in the bottom six are Sheffield United on April 24th.
