Key midfielder to miss Brighton's clash against Manchester United

Albion head coach Graham Potter admitted the suspension of Mali international midfielder Yves Bissouma is a blow ahead of the Premier League match against Manchester United at the Amex Stadium tomorrow.

Bissouma, 24, received a straight red card during the 3-0 victory at Newcastle last Sunday when his high boot connected firmly with the face of Newcastle left back Jamal Lewis.

Bissouma was handed a three match suspension, the first of which was served during Albion's midweek Carabao Cup victory at Preston.

The midfielder will miss the United match and this week's Carabao Cup match - also against United - and will be available for the trip to Everton on October 3.

"Obviously you always miss players but it’s an opportunity for someone else," said Potter. "We have a few options. We’ll see how training goes before we make a decision but we have a few options."

Potter's options were reduced even further yesterday when experienced midfielder Dale Stephens completed his switch Premier League rivals Burnley.

Dutch international Davy Propper is however available and could feature against United having played a full 90 minutes at Preston as he recovers from an Achilles problem.

Steven Alzate has started both Premier League matches so far this season in central midfield and there could also be an opportunity for Jayson Molumby to make his top flight debut for Albion.

Molumby had a successful loan spell at Millwall last season and didn't travel to Preston on Wednesday.

"Jayson's got some fantastic attributes and great qualities," said Potter of the 21-year-old Republic of Ireland international. "A really competitive guy, wants to play football, wants to play for Brighton, wants to help his team-mates. He's a really good person to have around and we're excited for him and his future."

Brighton have been buoyed by Carabao Cup successes over Portsmouth and Preston, either side of the mauling of the Magpies.

The trio of wins has set up back-to-back home clashes with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United side in league and cup.

Potter has urged his players to work hard to ensure the positive form continues.

“The players are in a good place, working for each other,” he said.

“The understanding of what we’re trying to do is developing, so that’s pleasing.

“At the same time, we know how football is. There are challenges around the corner and things can quickly turn around so just try and keep as level as possible and look forward to the next match.”
