Just seconds before the full-time whistle and with help from VAR, Brighton were awarded a late penalty after Andy Robertson made contact with Danny Welbeck’s foot in the box.

Pascal Grob dispatched the spot-kick to earn Graham Potter a point against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Back on Merseyside, Everton were beaten 1-0 at Goodison Park by Leeds United, with many Toffees fans taking to social media to express their annoyance at the continued fouling of Richarlison.

But Carragher, responding to accusations of bias from Everton fans, fought his corner and spoke of the Seagulls’ win against his former club Liverpool.

"I don’t think he’s [Richarlison] targeted from games I’ve seen, Carragher explained on Twitter. “But you will see more than me.

"Mane/Salah go down yes but my problem is the STAYING down pretending he’s hurt! I’m out of this one now as I’m prepping for MNF!

“I spoke about Salah/Kane in my newspaper column yesterday. If defenders make contact in the box they’re daft, like the Brighton pen yesterday. My frustration with Richarlison is not going down so much but more pretending he’s hurt when he’s down when he’s not!”

Liverpool thought they had picked up all three points against Brighton when Sadio Mane scored a late header. However, it was ruled out by VAR.

Earlier in the game, Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah also saw his goal ruled out for offside by officials at Stockley Park.

After the Brighton’s draw with Liverpool Carragher stated he had heard the conversations between Stockley Park officials and the on-pitch referee.

“I heard one at Anfield! The VAR tell the referee what the infringement was. Going to the screen has fooled us all into thinking referees change their mind. It’s a total waste of time. VAR got everything right today I should add!!

“I’m not sticking up for it, I’m explaining why the referee going to the monitor is a waste of time. That penalty decision at the end was very similar to Salah v West Ham. I thought that was a pen.”
