Former boss Graham Potter remains the favourite with the bookmakers, with ex-Nottingham Forest and England youth coach Steve Cooper also in the running.

Rydström is also a leading contender with the Swede currently the third favourite at 7/1 with Sky Bet.

Albion’s Swedish midfielder Ayari – who joined Brighton for around £3m from AIK in 2023 and spent last season on loan at Coventry and Blackburn – feels Rydström is a ‘great manager.’

“Honestly?! Is it just a rumour? How sick! He is a great coach who likes to play good football,” said the 20-year-old to @Aftonbladet. “The rumour can’t be completely stupid, because Brighton look at data and stats. He has very good statistics in Allsvenskan."
