At least six arrests were made in connection with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, police have confirmed.

Sussex Police said the arrests had been made as of 5pm on Sunday, October 18. No further details were available at the time of the update.

There was an increased police presence across Brighton city centre and at the Amex Stadium in Falmer throughout the day, with additional officers also deployed on the railway network as supporters travelled to the sold-out match.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Six arrests have been made in connection with the Premier League fixture between Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace, as of 5pm on Sunday.

“There was an increased policing presence in Brighton city centre and at the Amex stadium throughout the day.

“This was a pre-planned measure to ensure the safety of everyone attending the game or watching it at one of the many venues in the city, and to ensure the safety of the general public.

“We have no further details at this time.”

Ahead of the match, the police force had warned residents and visitors to expect congestion and travel disruption, particularly around Brighton railway station, and advised people to allow extra time for their journeys.

It also reminded supporters that a Public Space Protection Order is in place for Brighton city centre. Under the order, officers can seize and remove alcohol being consumed outside licensed premises, including alcohol from bottles and cans.

British Transport Police said additional officers would patrol the railway to help keep supporters safe and reassure other passengers.

Passengers were advised to speak to officers if they had any concerns and report anything suspicious by texting 61016.
