Midfielder Sam Field will miss up to five weeks of action after suffering a knee injury in training before the international break, manager Slaven Bilic told reporters.

Field, 22, a product of The Baggies' academy, was linked with a move away from the club in the summer but he stayed put and has featured in the league this season.

Bilic said Welsh forward Hal Robson-Kanu is still unavailable after he suffered a broken wrist during the 2-0 defeat at Southampton earlier this month. Kieran Gibbs, who was left out of the squad for the 0-0 draw with Burnley, is in contention to start.

Bilic said West Brom, who are still searching for their first victory in the top flight after gaining promotion from the Championship, 'need a positive result' against the Seagulls.

He said: “Nothing else can give you confidence and belief than a win. All I want to ask from the guys is to improve from where we stopped against Burnley.

“It has to become our minimum standard and with a bit of better finishing, magic or more bravery, sooner or later the win will come.

“We need a positive result and performance because only in that way we can say we are improving and building from the game against Burnley.

“We weren’t happy with the result but found a lot of positives we could build on.

“Not only the result, it is the most important thing, but the performance can help us as a newcomer in the league.”

When asked about Graham Potter’s Brighton, Bilic said the points they have (four) 'don’t really match the performances'.

He added: "They are a ball-playing side and play nice football.

“They have played better than they have shown. They are a very good side, they are very solid, resilient and good with and without the ball but it’s a good opportunity for us to get something out of it."

In his own pre-match press conference, Potter, who made 43 appearances for West Brom as a player between 1997 and 2000, was full of praise for his former club.

He said: "They've strengthened their squad from promotion.

"They have an experienced manger. I like West Brom a lot. They've always struck me as a good club with a good fan base and good people around the club.

"They'll be desperate to do well and stay in the league."
