'Too late' - John Hartson delivers verdict on Brighton survival hopes ahead of Leeds United clash

The Seagulls are currently seven points clear of the drop zone with five matches left to play after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to bottom club Sheffield United, but also have the advantage of vastly superior goal difference.

Albion sit on a tally of -6, while nearest relegation rivals Fulham have a sum total of -18. West Brom who are currently 19th, have a goal difference of -34.

And despite some promising results from the likes of the Baggies in recent weeks, Hartson is firmly of the opinion that the gap between Brighton and the bottom three is too broad to bridge at this late stage of the season.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Football Show, the former Celtic striker said: “I can’t see West Brom getting out of it, as well as West Brom have done in recent weeks – winning at Chelsea.

"I just feel that Brighton will just have enough.

"Fulham have to go to Chelsea this weekend, they have to go to Old Trafford and play Man United. I like Scott Parker, I like they way Fulham play, I just think that they’ve left it a bit too late.

"I think it will be the three that are there now. Obviously Sheffield United, West Brom, and Fulham – they’re my three picks. I can’t see it being changed from what it is.

"I think Brighton may just have made it this season.”
