'What a beauty' - Brighton v Kauno Zalgiris player ratings: £40m man scores 8/10 and new assist king emerges

Brighton enjoy a comfortable 4-0 win in the Uefa Conference League against Kauno Zalgiris at the Amex Stadium

Fabian Hurzeler no longer wants Brighton to be nice. Prior to the match he spoke on the importance of being mean and ruthless and Albion were certainly that against the Lithuanian league leaders.

Georginio, making his first start since the 4-0 Premier League win against Aston Villa, opened the scoring with a clever first time effort from Ibrahim Osman's assist. VAR eventually confirmed that Osman had kept the ball in play and the goal was allowed to stand.

The fit-again Jack Hinshelwood then made it 2-0 just before the break as he finished well from Georginio's assist. Georginio claimed his second and Brighton's third on 53 minutes after yet more good work from Malick Yalcouye and Osman.

It became increasingly more comfortable and seconds after coming on as a second half substitute Younes Ibrahim - making his first team debut - popped up with an assist for Matt O’Riley to head home. It must rank as one of the fastest ever assists for a player making his first team debut.

Well played Brighton, now for Palace on Sunday!

Brighton player ratings

Bart Verbruggen - 6: The Dutch international didn't have a save to make but looked the part in his black kit. He received the captain’s armband when Pascal Gross was subbed off.

Costinha - 6: The Portuguese summer signing was almost on the scoresheet early on with a header that went just over. He broke forward well and carried out his defensive duties when needed, which wasn’t often.

Lewis Dunk - 6: He's had easier 45 minutes but he probably can't remember when. A comfortable evening for the skipper. His clever first time effort from distance on the half hour went just over. Replaced by Vuskovic at halftime.

Michael Svoboda - 6: The Austrian international made his first start of the season following his summer arrival. Comfortable on the ball and has plenty of physicality. He looks a good signing.

Olivier Boscagli - 7: What a left foot this guy has. Early balls into the box caused numerous problems for the visiting defence. Replaced by De Cuyper at the break.

Pascal Gross - 7: The 35-year-old just does not rest. Pinged in a dangerous freekick from a tight angle that was well saved from Svedkauskas. Constantly threatening with his deliveries and probing passes. Replaced by Yasin Ayari on 57.

Jack Hinshelwood - 7: He loves a goal does Jack. A fine first-time finish just before the break to make it 2-0. Great to see Hinshelwood back into the starting XI. His return to fitness is a huge boost ahead of a busy schedule. Also had a 34th minute header well saved by Svedkauskas. Well played. Replaced by Promise David on 57.

Matt O’Riley - 7: Yes, Matt O'Riley. Lesser spotted these days but still a classy operator when called upon. A very good header to make it 3-0 on 66 minutes.

Malick Yalcouye - 7: Bizarrely the midfielder was not included in the initial squad for the league phase. Somehow Albion shuffled him in as Zadok Yohanna dropped out. If he was not a footballer he'd be a marathon runner. He just does not stop! Excellent contribution as he powered from deep for Albion’s third.

Georginio Rutter - 8: A nice side-footed finish for his first of the season. It will do his confidence the world of good as he comes back from injury. Picked up a nice assist for Hinshelwood's effort and then netted his second soon after the break.

Ibrahim Osman - 8: Two assists for the winger on his first ever start at the Amex. He just about kept the ball in play to claim an assist for Rutter's opener and then picked Rutter out again soon after the break. Nice play from the left winger. Replaced by Younes Ibrahim on 67 minutes.

Substitutes: De Cuyper (Boscagli, 46), Vuskovic (Dunk, 46), Promise (Hinshelwood, 57), Ayari (Gross, 57), Ibrahim (Osman, 67).
