The two sides may not be the closest in terms of geography, but there is still no shortage of bad blood between them – and it’s a grudge that is made all the more fierce by the need for points to ensure their respective Premier League statuses next season.

The reverse fixture at Selhurst Park ended 1-1 back in October, with Alexis Mac Allister scoring a last minute equaliser to cancel out Wilfried Zaha’s first half opener.

It’s been a little while since Albion took all three points from this one, however, and the Seagulls haven’t beaten the Eagles since March 2019, with Glenn Murray and Anthony Knockaert on the score-sheet that day

But this is a rivalry that stretches back way beyond the past couple of years or so.

The first official meeting between Brighton and Crystal Palace came on Christmas Day 1920, in a 2-0 defeat for Albion in the old Division Three South.

In the years since, the sides have met on 103 other occasions, but who has had the better of the clashes, and how does it rank in terms of ferocity compared to some of the biggest rivalries in English football?

Paddy Power have ran the numbers, comparing win percentages from derby clashes between every Premier League club and their most fierce foes to determine which clashes truly are the most competitive.
