Team news

"At the moment, there's no fresh injuries from last night.

"There's two that come to mind.

"Izquierdo has been out for a little while but we're hoping he's going to train this morning, which will be a major plus for us. Then it's about getting as many training sessions in to build up his levels.

"Dale Stephens, who missed the last game, we'll assess today and we'll hopefully expect him to train either today or tomorrow."

Competitive Brighton squad

"At this moment we feel we've got a very competitive squad. What we have been able to do is change the team and what it has seen is a lot of players who haven't had regular minutes as they would like get them minutes under their belt.

"It's very much a club thing. We're very strong on the bench, so the balance is a late Wednesday night but then there's the feel of going through.

"I always think that tips the balances. The feel you have going into a Saturday game, it's certainly better going in on the feel of a good win and a win that keeps us in the cup."

How's Glenn Murray getting better aged 35?

"I don't know if he's getting better but there's certainly no signs of him lessening what he does.

"I can only speak for the time he's been here in this second spell and he does himself the best justice he can by training the way he does, looking after himself the way that he does.

"Glenn has never been one that's been blessed with a great amount of pace but he's always had a work ethic and he's always had an eye for goal.

"At the moment they're two things that he has managed to maintain.

"We don't look at him as a certain age, we just look at his performances and what he's given the team.

"It's very much warranted being in the team, being in a very good squad and has helped him get the goals he has got."

Is fan abuse getting worse in football?

“As regards what we hear, particularly of late, do I feel that the abuse has got more? Probably the answer to that one is no.

“I think you have got to give the clubs credit and certainly with social media these days, it's being picked up far more and far quicker than it has in the past.

“That being the case, it's about what's being done about it. If I can speak about what we do here at Brighton, on any incidences we have here they are very quickly picked up and dealt with. And I think that's very much the case for most clubs.

“The negative is that it still goes, the plus is that it's jumped upon a lot quicker now. I think there are sections of support that are not prepared to accept it and will recognise it and will report it. It's about making sure that whatever punishments and fines are given out to individuals is dealt with as quick as possible.

“I don't generally feel that we've gone from the game being in a far better place to things having got worse.

“I think there have always been incidences and what will happen now is, particularly with social media, there is now a far bigger platform for that to happen and perhaps we didn't have that before.

“It's up to the game as a whole and the authorities to stamp what they can out as quick as possible and making sure the punishments are as hard as possible.”

Coming up against in-form Burnley

"We're coming up against a Burnley team who we know really well.

"We've had a lot of games against them in recent seasons and every single one of those games has been close and tight.

"There are some similarities with both clubs and both sets of players and that's what made them close encounters.

"They are in good form at the moment. Most people felt that after a difficult start and the Europa Cup and a lot of games, they really just needed to get in a settled pattern and with no Europa Cup games now, it's allowed them to do that.

"Most people felt they would get a run going and we play them in the middle of what is a very good run for them."

Sean Dyche

"He should have huge credit for what they've done.

"The fact they had all these Europa Cup games at the start of the season is down to one reason, where they finished last season in an outstanding season.

"For as much as we can talk about the top six and what they've achieved, what Burnley achieved last season was every much as good as what anybody else achieved, with the budget and the squad they have.

"At some stage, there was going to be a downside to that. It's very difficult to maintain that when you don't have the resources the top clubs have.

"The start of the season they had was understandable but it was only a matter of time before they got on back on track and they are very much back on track at the moment."

Options in the squad

"Izquierdo is the missing link as to having all the different types of offensive options that we have. He gives us that pace option up front and predominantly on the left hand side and the goals he gave us last season.

"That's one dynamic that we have missed.

"But it's impossible to have everything. As regards what we've had injury wise, we've been very good this season and probably haven't had the wholesale injuries you can have at some stage and that maybe some other clubs have had.

"Competition wise we're in good shape and having Jahanbakhsh back as well is a big plus for us."
