Broadbridge Heath beat Mile Oak again to stay with the Division 2 leaders

This was the fifth meeting of the two sides this season - a pre-season friendly, the Division 2 Cup, the SCFA RUR Cup and two league games and everyone from Mile Oak will be pleased to see the back of Broadbridge Heath having failed to win any of the encounters.

Heath took an early lead in the ninth minute when Tiago Andrade played the ball into the path of Andy Waddingham, the former Heath Junior hit a first time shot that was parried by the Oaks goalkeeper Matt Grimstone, straight into the path of Kieron Purkis who gratefully tapped it in from six yards.

Grimstone was called into action again midway through the half when he was forced to make a backwards fingertip save to deny Ollie Moore, and when Jake Holmes saw his goal-bound volley deflected wide of the goal off the back of a defender Heath felt it was going to be one of those days.

In fact the Oaks should have been on level terms at the break when a free kick was played into the Heath penalty area towards Mark O’Regan at the far post, and the normal reliable striker somehow failed to make any contact with the ball to waste a golden opportunity.

Heath continued creating chances in the second period; Waddingham had another effort well saved by Grimstone, Piers McDermott saw his effort from the edge of the penalty area go inches wide of the post and Andrade’s backward header looped over the ‘keeper but again went narrowly wide.

In the 84th minute Andrade broke away down the right and crossed for substitute Lee Thomas to score from close range at the far post.

With three minutes remaining Jamal Sultan went on a dazzling run, beating three defenders but saw his lob sail narrowly wide.
