Burgess Hill Town delighted at the prospect of competitive football returning

Burgess Hill Town chairman Kevin Newell says the club is delighted at the proposed return of competitive football.

The Isthmian League announced on Wednesday that league fixtures will resume on December 19 - subject to government approval. And if teams agree, they can start on December 12.

And Newell said the Hillians can't wait to get going.

He said: "Like all football fans, we’re delighted at the prospect of a return of competitive matches.

"Apart from the excitement of the games, it is critical for the future of the club that we can begin to generate much-needed revenue from gate receipts and of course the bar.

"Our supporters have been incredibly loyal and supportive throughout this difficult time, and I sincerely hope that the government recognises the huge contribution to our community that the club offers, and permits the restart with spectators.

"For our part we will do whatever is necessary by way of the protective measures we have put in place to ensure the continued safety of all who attend the More Than Tyres stadium.”
