Cant rues Hornets’ rotten luck in referee red rage

A series of decisions have hampered the Hornets in their relegation battle in recent weeks and a straight red card to captain Lewis Hamilton against Hythe Town was the latest.

Referee Daniel Bonneywell dismissed the full-back for his challenge on the far side of the pitch, despite what appeared to be a fair tackle as last man, with the home side leading 1-0.

With ten-men and feeling aggrieved, Hornets threw caution to the wind and a 4-0 defeat ensued which continued their woeful record in Kent.

Joint manager Cant said: “It was a tight game and we should have been in front at half-time as we had missed a few chances, but it all hinged on a refereeing decision, again.

“That’s three or four in a row now and that game was really even at the time. Even they said it was never a foul and never ever a sending-off.

“There was the Guernsey penalty, the handball that never was at Folkestone - it does seem to be going against us at the moment.

“I do not think the standard of officials is very good. I used to get involved, but what can I say?

“If I do I will end up with a trip up to Wembley to a nice box and a £500 fine and we would have still lost the game.

“It’s harder to take when you are very much in the game and an injustice goes against you. It’s not so bad when you are midtable, but when you are fighting for your lives it hurts.”

Horsham host Whitstable on Saturday and hope to have added a new striker to their squad by the end of the week.

Cant added: “We have got to worry about Whitstable now, it’s gone and there is no point in moaning about it. It is still in our own hands as well as other results that can go are way.

“It’s one game at a time and we have to worry about Whitstable, we just need our luck to change.”
