Although Chesworth always had the upper hand after going in front after four minutes through Elliott Bennett’s drilled shot from a tight angle, it needed two second-half goal line clearances by Connor Jones to thwart Roffey’s fight back.

Jack Woolgar-Leith netted Chesworth’s second on 16 minutes from the penalty spot and Bennett’s second, scored from the same position as his first, gave Chesworth a three-goal cushion at half time.

Roffey kept battling in midfield and up front in a tight and nervy second half, but Chesworth’s defence stood firm while they also spurned a couple of chances to add to their score.

Rovers sealed the win with six minutes left when a beautiful flowing move ended with Harrison Mott’s perfectly timed run allowing him to collect a lovely through-ball and finish neatly past the advancing keeper.

The result meant Roffey were denied the double after they had snatched the league title from Chesworth’s grasps the weekend before.
