The Seagulls have picked up just two points from their last six Premier League games and have fallen to 16th, just three points above the relegation zone.

Brighton travel to Leicester this evening looking to get back to winning ways. The Foxes are also winless in six league matches and sacked manager Claude Puel on Sunday after their 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Asked if Brighton's performances recently have deserved more points, Hughton said: "Yes but I'm also realistic, we haven't got the points. It doesn't matter how you get them.

"If you said to me now that we won't play well from now through to the end of the season but we'll get enough points to make sure we're in this division next season, then I would settle for that.

"We've felt a few things have gone against us but mostly because the level of performance hasn't been bad enough for real concerns."

Hughton added Albion have to stop conceding so many goals: "We have conceded three goals at home against Burnley and we conceded four away to Fulham, which is probably not like us, particularly the Fulham one.

"We've had a few things go against us as regards refereeing decisions and so but that happens. You have to accept it.

"The advantage we have at this moment is I haven't got a changing room where it's doom and gloom and wondering where the next points are coming from.

"I've got a changing room that knows probably our performances have warranted more than what we have got. But sometimes that's not the case.

"It's very much about doing the things we do well and eradicating the things we haven't been doing so well. Certainly in the last few games, that's been about conceding goals."
