City enjoy 11-0 win - but 13-0 defeat's not such fun...

Chichester City's development squad had a break from their testing Suburban League campaign when they breezed into the next round of the cup by thrashing Worthing Dynamos 11-0 at Oaklands Park.

This is a cup the Chips will want to do well in and if Dynamos expected a relaxed approach from their hosts, they were soon put straight.

Goals from McCarthy, Groom, Manners, Bigwood and skipper Madden, plus a disciplined defensive display, gave City a five-goal advantage at the break that was anything but flattering.

Dynamos never looked like having sufficient firepower to threaten Tom Cowell’s goal.

McCarthy added three more to his tally, Groom completed his double and there was one apiece for Nat Hubert and even keeper Cowell.

City travel to tabletoppers Horsham YMCA tonight in search of their first Suburban League win. On Saturday, they visit Redhill in the league cup.

City’s development squad continued their tough introduction to senior football with two more difficult away fixtures.

This is a young team but, with each game played, there has been a continued improvement and it was no surprise when they travelled to Horsham and gained their first league victory against the divisional leaders.

Two goals from Aran McCarthy and one from Dave Knight gave the Chips three long-overdue and well-earned points.

It was a very different story when City visited Redhill in the league cup.

Redhill’s first-team match fell victim to a pitch inspection and they played their title-chasing squad against City. Their experience and ability was just too much to cope with.

Despite the heroics of Cowell in goal, Redhill had scored eight before 30 minutes had passed. The home side were limited to one further strike in the first half and just four in the second.

There were bright spells for City, but manager Sean Forry put this down to - and as an - experience.

This Saturday the Chips travel to East Dean for the second round of the Sussex Intermediate Cup.
