The visitors controlled large parts of the contest and they left with a result that ensures they are looking up rather than down in Division 3.

Clymping played with a quick tempo from the off and they went ahead after ten minutes. Striker Joe Charman pressurised the Billingshurst keeper into a mistake and he then calmly slotted home to get his team off to the best possible start.

Despite a harrowing gale, Clymping continued to play good football and it paid dividends once more just before half-time.

Ben Bishop sent in a long throw that was neatly flicked on by Rob Brown to Nathan Peacock, who found himself unmarked six yards out to double his side’s lead.

However, Clymping switched off and gave away a needless free-kick just outside the box on the stroke of half-time which was finished well by Jordan Saunders, which gave the home side a way back into the match.

The visitors continued to dominate after the break though and they reinstalled their two-goal advantage just before the hour mark with a superb 20-yarder from Rob Brown that found the net via the inside of the post.

The game then became bogged down and both teams struggled to create any real chances, although Pete Proto’s 80th-minute goal did set up a nervous finale for Clymping, but they battled well to earn another three points on the road.

Assistant manager Andy Brown said: “We played some of our best football of the season and it was a good overall team performance.

“We’re looking to win at least two or three of our remaining matches and build for next season.”

Victory made it two back-to-back wins on the road for Clymping after they overcame Rottingdean Village the previous week.
