Common, Bexhill & Westfield all win

Little Common, Bexhill United and Westfield were all victorious on Saturday.

Common remain four points clear at the top of Sussex County Football League Division Two on the back of a 2-0 success away to Rustington.

The visitors took an early lead when Jamie Crone turned home Chris Cumming-Bart’s low cross at the near post. Crone sealed a fifth straight win with his ninth goal of the season early in the second half.

A well below strength Bexhill side overturned a half time deficit to win 2-1 against previously unbeaten Midhurst & Easebourne in their first home game of the campaign and move up to third place.

Gary Norgate put Midhurst ahead with an angled drive shortly before the break, but Steve Morris thumped home a 47th minute equaliser and Martin Denny scored Bexhill’s 63rd minute winner after a great run by Andy Garman.

There was controversy in added time as Midhurst had the ball in the net only for the referee to disallow the goal for offside after consulting his linesman, who hadn’t flagged.

Westfield are up to sixth after picking up their second win of the season with a 3-1 triumph away to Southwick thanks to an own goal, Nathan Russell’s first for the club and Gordon Cuddington.
