Common confidence booster

Little Common gave themselves the perfect boost ahead of their Sussex County League Division Two Challenge Cup semi-final tonight (Monday).

The Commoners go into the last four clash against AFC Uckfield at Ringmer FC (kick-off 7.30pm) fresh off a 4-0 win at home to Oakwood in the league on Saturday.

Goals from Lewis Hole, Jordan Wood, Mickey O’Callaghan and Casey Ham gave Common their first league victory since October 9 when they beat the same opponents 6-2 in the reverse fixture.

Also in Division Two on Saturday, Bexhill United won 4-2 at home to East Preston through Chris Gould (2), Gordon Cuddington and James Doswell. But Westfield lost by the same score away to Littlehampton Town.

In Division One, Rye United manager Scott Price was furious with referee Matt Goldsmith after his team had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home to fourth-bottom Lingfield.

Goldsmith sent-off Rye substitute Jimmy Watson for two yellow cards in the space of four second half minutes, and cautioned five other players from each side.

Rye fell behind in the 14th minute, but Scott Ramsay equalised six minutes later. Jono Richardson’s volley went in off Marc Gall’s face to make it 2-1 to Rye early in the second half only for Lingfield to level with an 88th minute penalty.

Sidley United went down 1-0 at home to Ringmer in the same division. Full reports on all of these matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.
