County League round-up (October 12)

EAST Preston Football Club remained five points clear at the top of the County League after a last-gasp winner from Mike Huckett on Saturday.

Huckett headed the winner in the fourth minute of injury-time to give EP a 1-0 win at home to lowly Hailsham.

Second-placed Hassocks were 3-0 winners at home to bottom-of-the-table Worthing United.

Littlehampton remain third after a 4-2 win at home to Ringmer. All of the goals came in the second half as Golds struck twice in the closing stages to grab the win.

Alex Kew, Liam Humphreys, George Gaskin and Mitchell Hand were on target for Golds.

Arundel conceded twice at the end of the first half to go down 2-0 away to East Grinstead.

Shoreham suffered a 4-1 reverse at home to Horsham YMCA. Chad Milner had drawn Mussels level ten minutes into the second half but the visitors then struck three times in a ten-minute spell.

Lancing suffered a late 3-2 defeat at home to St Francis Rangers. The visitors led 2-0, before Owen Callaghan scored on 88 and 90 minutes to make it 2-2. However, Rangers grabbed the points when Josh Bryant scored in injury-time.

Eastbourne United won the top-of-the-table clash 4-1 at Steyning Town to remain top of Division 2. Ashley Finch netted Town’s goal.

Mile Oak were denied all three points by a late Loxwood penalty in their 2-2 draw. Andy McDowell scored both goals for Oak.

Ash Harper netted a brace for Wick & Barnham in their 4-2 victory away to Oakwood. Matt Noble and Kieron Playle-Howard notched the other goals.

Rustington lost 3-2 at Haywards Heath, despite fighting back from a 3-0 half-time deficit. Si Clayton and Gav Heater netted for Blues.

Storrington lost 1-0 at home to Little Common, who got the only goal through Lewis Hole on 34 minutes.

Ferring progressed in the Sussex Intermediate Cup with a 5-1 win away to Eastbourne United Reserves. Barney Boutwood, with two, Ross Fraser and Pete Christodoulou were all on target.

Southwick crashed out with a 6-1 defeat awat to Sidlesham. James Morey scored for Wickers.

Clymping received a walk-over win as Yapton have folded.
