Crawley appoint former Chelsea coach Dermot Drummy as new head coach

Crawley Town have appointed former Chelsea and Arsenal youth coach Dermot Drummy as their new head coach.

He has been given a two-year contract with a year’s option to extend.

Former Aldershot coach Matt Gray has been named as his assistant.

Druumy will take charge of their next game, Saturday’s away trip to bottom of the table Dagenham & Redbridge.

Previous boss Mark Yates and his assistant Jimmy Dack left the club on Monday, following six successive defeats.

The former Cheltenham manager was appointed at Reds last summer on a two-year deal and kept them in League Two this season following their previous relegation.

New owner Ziya Eren had previously said in a statement he was ‘assessing’ his management team before confirming if they would be still be in place next season.

He has said he is aiming to reach the Championship within ten years.

Englishman Drummy, 55, ran the Chelsea Academy and later became their international head coach.

He came through the Arsenal youth system and although never played for their first team, did make five appearances on loan for Blackpool.

He later played Non-League football for Enfield and St Albans City and won the U21s Premier League in 2013-14 as manager of Chelsea.
