In the past couple of weeks the club have announced the contract extensions of David Sesay, Ashley Nathaniel-George, Josh Doherty, and, most recently, George Francomb.

Yems also said they were trying to keep Ollie Palmer but thinks ‘he is on his way’.

A few Crawley Town players’ contracts end on June 30 and after the announcement about Francomb, the club said ‘further news regarding player contracts will follow later this month’.

And there are rumours some new signings are on the horizon.

Yems said: “It’s good news that the three have extended their contracts.

“We are trying to keep Ollie but I think he’s on his way.

“Listen, the whole team did well this season and hopefully we will add a couple but if we don’t then it’s a great opportunity for the other lads who have done well.”

And after Jimmy Smith left, Yems said: “Jimmy is a football man and I wish him all the best in the future.”

There was a debate on the CRAWLEY TOWN 4 LIFE page by fans over whether the club should let him go.

James Gillham said: “Don’t let him go he’s so important to the club. Letting Matt Tubbs go was a mistake don’t make another.”

But Richard Kail said: “Our whole business plan is to develop players like Lubala and sell them for high profits. We didn’t make any money like that last season, so we’re due to get one over the line. I just hope it’s the right side of 500k.”

The EFL announced last week the change in regulations which will see the leagues resolved including an unweighted points per game – and there will be promotion and relegation.

And Yems believes they have come to the correct decision. He said: “They have come to the right decision but it’s just annoying it’s taken them so long to do it.

“By the same token people are telling me if they had done it just after Christmas with nine games to go we would not have been far off relegation.

“But it shows you how far we have come in a short time.

“It’s a great springboard for next year.

“When you look at some of the sides that are in the play-offs and going up, we had taken points off those teams and that’s got to be a confidence booster for the lads. Next year, you obviously don’t get anything for looking in the past but if we work twice as hard now, who knows?”
