Crawley Town injury update: Lindsey gives updates on Arsenal loanee and former Hibs forward

Crawley Town boss Scott Lindsey has given an update on the fitness of injured duo Louie Copley and Harry McKirdy.

Copley, signed on loan from Arsenal in January, has only featured three times for the Reds after picking up knocks.

He started last Saturday in the 2-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers but was taken off at half-time with an issue.

Lindsey said: “He’s probably going to be another two weeks minimum, four weeks maximum. I know it's vague but he's not our player, so we've got to be mindful of that.

“We have to be governed by what Arsenal see and say as well. Ricky [McFarlane], my strength and conditioning coach - he's in touch with them and we've built a really good relationship with that side of it as well.

“He's rolled his ankle and it's not right yet. It's the same ankle as the first time, so it's going to be two to four weeks.”

McKirdy’s season has been consistently disrupted by injury, and the forward has missed the last two games.

“Harry McKirdy’s got a nerval problem in his back at the moment,” Lindsey said. “We’ve done some testing with him today and he really struggled, so we might have to get that scanned.

“I think it’s more of a sciatic nerve problem more than anything. So, he’s just struggling with it at the moment and I think, the last time he was on the pitch, you could see he really struggled towards the end before he came off the pitch.”

Defender Josh Flint, who had played every minute in League Two this campaign, came off late on in the goalless draw at MK Dons on Tuesday night and the Reds’ boss clarified that decision.

He said: “I think it was more that his achilles was sore and he was struggling a little bit to run. I just didn't want to risk that last five, ten minutes, whatever the time was when he'd come off.

“I didn't want to risk somebody running at him late on in the game and he couldn't do the defensive duty properly because of that. I just felt it was right to bring him off.”

The Reds are back in action this Saturday when they welcome sixth-placed Chesterfield to the Broadfield Stadium.

Lindsey’s side have fallen to 22nd in the table after results elsewhere went against them during the week.
