The former Tottenham youth has most recently been playing for League One club Fleetwood and is expected to be available for this Saturday’s Sky Bet League 2 game against Leyton Orient.

Manager Mark Yates said: “Lyle is a player we have looked at for a while. He didn’t get the chances he wanted when Fleetwood changed their manager but he’s got a lot to offer.

“He’s mobile, is a good passer and reads the game well.

“He can also play in a variety of positions. We’re delighted he’s joined us and he will have the chance over the next few weeks to show us what he’s capable of.”

Lyle started his career with Southend United before joining Fulham in July 2014.

He had a loan spell with Bristol Rovers last season, playing eight games for the Pirates, but that was cut short by a serious ankle injury.

After he was released by Fulham last summer, Lyle joined League One Fleetwood Town and made eight appearances for the Cod Army earlier in the season after he was signed on a two-year contract by former boss Graham Alexander.

But Lyle has been a free agent since Fleetwood released him by mutual consent in February and is delighted to link up with Reds.

He said: “It’s good to be here. I haven’t really shown what I can offer to any club yet but I believe in my ability and I think I can make a big impact at Crawley.

“The gaffer and the other lads have made me really welcome and I’m looking forward to showing them and the Crawley fans what I can do.”

Lyle has been given squad no.30.
