This follows the ex-Swansea City 21-year-old’s scoring four goals in five matches including the winner to beat Luton 1-0 in the JPT plus fine strikes against Notts County and Coventry City.

Edwards’ form earned him a call up to join the full Wales senior squad, training with Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. The winner will be announced on Friday.

Other nominations:

Jonathan Forte (Oldham Athletic) - striker

Relishing his new lease of life at Oldham. Playing wide or through the middle, he demonstrated his finishing ability in one-on-ones to score twice against Coventry City, the highlight of a prolific month of five goals in as many games.

Dean Lewington (MK Dons) - left-back

The only ever-present in a back four which conceded just one goal, his powers of organisation and captaincy were key to three clean sheets. Superb positionally and always prepared to throw his body in the way of shots.

Marcus Maddison (Peterborough United) - midfielder

The 21-year-old’s Football League career could not have started better. Moved more centrally, October saw him score four goals with sumptuous 30-yard free-kicks against Oldham Athletic and Barnsley and an impudent finish at Crawley Town.
