He’s been enjoying working with Mark Yates and the defensive players who have not conceded a goal in the two games he has played.

Scales, 18, said: “Wycombe came off the back of three wins, they’ve done well. It was a really good opportunity for us. We were no pushover, we worked hard for it and it was a good point.

Freddie Woodman, Jon Ashton and Simon Walton and also Sonny Bradley have been good, talking to me all the time and not letting me switch off.

“(Crystal Palace manager) Alan Pardew sent me down here to get some gametime. I want to try and show them what I can do and go back a better player for it.”

Scales reckons the two-week gap before the next match caused by the international call-ups could be good for the team.

“You want to build on games quickly but the gap could be good for us as we can work hard and it gives us a little longer to work on the next game against Mansfield away.

“I did my pre-season at Palace but when the opportunity came to come down here I was delighted as I wanted to get gametime and improve my game as much as possible.

“The things I’ve been learning since I’ve been here have been brilliant and I’m looking forward to what’s to come.”
