The centre-back signed a month’s deal from League One club Rotherham last month and has played in each of Reds’ three games since.

He netted his first goal for the club on his home debut in their 1-1 draw with Nigel Clough’s Blades side on Saturday.

Asked if he was shocked at their position in the relegation places, Wood said: “I am actually. I don’t know what it was like at the start of the season, but the last few weeks, the lads seem to be a lot more happy with how everything is going.

“They seem to be lot more confident and more organised and the lads know how the gaffer wants they to play and it is working.”

The Sheffield United fan has not ruled out extending his loan with Reds if it suits all parties.

But the 29-year-old has said getting game time and back playing is the most important thing to him at the moment.

He added: “I started playing back end of August and picked up an injury so been out with that.

“It’s been quite a while - three months I was out with that, but I have been fit now for ten or 11 weeks and I wasn’t really getting a chance.

“I just need to play games. I can’t go through a season not playing games so I jumped at the chance when this opportunity came up.

“I am just happy to be playing now. That’s two games and I think there are seven in my loan, if I can play all seven and do well, we will see where we go from there.

“If I am playing and doing well we will see what happens, I don’t know what Rotherham want to do either.”
