Marc White brought his team to Bartholomew Way for their first outing since the dramatic play-off win against Ebbsfleet and was delighted with the reception and the game, in which the large contingent of Wanderers fans got to see their new signings for the first time.

Roffey also had some new faces in their line-up and understandably against such a class outfit, took a while to get into the game.

Wanderers took control with a brand and quality of football not seen before at Roffey.

The speed and accuracy of passing were a joy to watch and Roffey had to be at their very best to keep in the game with goal machine Alfie Rutherford and new signing Ryan Seager keeping Callum Jardim, Clyde Jaques and Hayden Neatrhey up to their game with many important blocks and tackles in and around the penalty area.

Behind them debutant Jacob Bennett recovered from one difficult cross to produce several saves and examples of good handling.

Matt Cheadle’s hammer of a left foot sent the ball into the far top corner for 1-0. The hosts began to get the ball forward to bring Slav Huk in the visitors’ goal into the game before Josh Taylor played in Jimmy Muitt to drill the ball home for 2-0.

White was able to make changes at half time, but Roffey settled much better in the second half and started to get their own attacks going. Josh Neathey rounded a couple of defenders in the box but his shot was deflected over from just off the line. James Pearse latched on to Harris’ headed clearance but could not keep his volley down.

Roffey had done themselves proud but fatigue began to set in and Wanderers added further goals.

Whitesaid: ‘Massive thanks to Roffey for hosting for a really good cause. It’s very brave of them to take on a step one team.’

Roffey boss Andy Lampard: ‘To host nearly 500 people at our ground was incredible. The atmosphere and buzz about the place was fantastic.”
