Dunk would not have made that challenge if he knew he was on a yellow

Brighton & Hove Albion keeper Mathew Ryan said captain Lewis Dunk did not know he was on a yellow card when he made the tackle which saw him sent off at Bournemouth this afternoon.

The Seagulls defender brought down Cherries striker Callum Wilson 17 minutes from time and was booked for the second time by referee Mike Dean.

However, Albion thought it was Yves Bissouma - and not Dunk - who had been booked earlier in the half.

David Brooks scored his second goal of the game shortly after Dunk's dismissal as Bournemouth won the Premier League match 2-0.

On the red card, Ryan said: "I wasn't sure who got the first yellow card, I didn't know if it was Bissouma or Lewis.

"And Lewis has said in the dressing room that he wasn't aware he was on a yellow card.

"It was not made clear to him he had received the yellow because it was Bissouma and him there.

"Clearly, from what Lewis has said, he wasn't aware he was on the yellow card and if he had been, he wouldn't be making a challenge like that next one.

"It was a type of challenge that was uncharacteristic.

"If he knew he was on a yellow, I don't think he would be making it.

"It's the type of yellow card challenge you make to break up play. If he's known I don't think he would have made that challenge."
