The match sees the Sussex County Football League champions, East Preston, face the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup winners, Peacehaven & Telscombe, to claim the 2014/15 season’s first piece of silverware.
Formerly named the Roy Hayden Memorial Trophy, the competition has undergone a dramatic re-branding exercise to become the Sussex Community Shield.
Ken Benham, Chief Executive of the Sussex County FA said: “The Sussex Community Shield aims to kick-off the Sussex football season in style. As the curtain raiser, the fixture needs to be a high-profile event, and it is hoped with the re-branding and the fantastic new piece of silverware that is up for grabs, people will come along and see two of Sussex’s finest sides battle it out.
“Our thanks go to Premier Sports and Leisure for their assistant with the production of the Community Shield itself, and their support as sponsors of the competition in its debut season.”
David Goldsmith, Managing Director of Premier Sports and Leisure, is looking forward to the start of a new football season in Sussex: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Sussex Community Shield. The start of a new season is a celebration and something, as big football supporters, we here at Premier Sports and Leisure are thoroughly looking forward too.
“At present we are fulfilling lots of orders from football teams across the county for new kit ahead of the big kick-off, and sponsoring the official opening of a new season is a way for us to give something back to the game!”
