EP re-sign six members of title-winning squad

SIX members of East Preston Football Club’s title-winning squad from last season have already put pen to paper for the upcoming campaign.

Captain Joe Shelley, full-back Alex Duncan, winger Darren Boswell, midfielder Rob Boddy, defender Niall O’Hagan and midfielder Mike Huckett will all still be in action for the County League Division 1 champions next season.

Shelley and Duncan will both embark on their fourth season at the club, with the industrial and attacking midfielder having scored 81 goals in 145 appearances and the defender has notched 13 times in 97 games.

Boswell scored 23 goals for EP last season, Boddy has netted three times in 67 games, O’Hagan has made 75 appearances and Huckett struck eight goals last season.

EP boss Dominic Di Paola said: “We have half our squad away this week and, because we are not looking to add numbers, it was always going to be a smaller group at the first session (on Tuesday), but I am pleased I have now signed half of last year’s team.

“I want to go with a slightly smaller squad this season and really work on improving us tactically.

“If we can retain the majority of last season’s squad, I am only looking to bring two in, to replace the three or four who will not be playing for us through retirement or commitment issues.”
