EP suffer first league defeat of the season

East Preston Football Club went down to their first County League Division 1 defeat of the season on Tuesday when they lost 1-0 at St Francis Rangers.

EP remain top of the table but boss Dominic Di Paola feels the result shows his side are not as good as their position currently suggests.

He said: “We’ve been poor for a few weeks now and have got out of jail a couple of times, with the late winner against AFC Uckfield and the draw with Peacehaven.

“This is proof we’re not as good as our position suggests. They were a poor team but we weren’t capable of scoring, which shows we’re not good enough. Browner (Ian Browne, assistant) said at half-time that if we didn’t take our chances, they could get a lucky goal and that’s exactly what happened.

“We ran out of ideas and this defeat and the draw with Arundel means we’ve now dropped five points.”

Craig Grantham and James Rhodes both had shots saved and Joe Shelley hit a post in the first half.

Rangers got the only goal from the penalty spot on 71 minutes after a foul by EP stopper Anthony Ender.
