Fan's view: Even Beckham would have been proud

As free-kicks go, it was probably one of the best I have seen by a Crawley Town player in a while.

Gwion Edwards’ strike at Northampton last season was pretty special, and everyone remembers Conor Henderson’s 89th minute winning set-piece against Walsall a few years ago.

But the 84th minute winning free-kick by ex-West Ham player Josh Payne at Wycombe on Saturday was something even David Beckham would of been proud of.

What was even more special about Saturday’s away day victory at Adams Park was that Crawley had to do it from a goal down.

In recent weeks results had gone the other way with Crawley taking the lead and surrendering the points, so to be on the other side of the fence and grab victory from the jaws of defeat made it all the sweeter.

What we now have is three huge home games coming up in the space of seven days.

Exeter, Doncaster and Portsmouth come to town, a couple of home victories and all of a sudden our season which only the other week seemed to be coming to a close is suddenly back on again.

Whatever happens from now on in, us Reds fans certainly can’t say it’s not been eventful.

Dermot Drummy promised us exciting football and exciting football is something we are certainly getting.

What has also been pleasing in recent games is that the team are producing goals from all over the pitch, where their was a spell when if James Collins didn’t score we didn’t score.

But with Jimmy Smith’s hat-trick still fresh in the mind and goals from Joe McNerney, Josh Payne, Lewis Young and Enzio Boldewijn in the last week, the team have certainly stepped up to the plate.

Talking of Enzio’s and Lewis Young’s goals, these came the other Tuesday night at Lancing FC where Crawley Town saw off a plucky Bognor Regis 3-2 to reach the Sussex Senior Cup Final for the first time in nine years.

The final is almost certainly going to be played at Brighton & Hove Albion’s impressive Amex Stadium, (date to be confirmed).

But I would like to think we will take a decent number of fans to Brighton for this one.

At the end of the day a trophy and the title of champions of Sussex is up for grabs!
