Farmer at the double in EP FA Cup win

DEFENDER Charlie Farmer scored a brace on Saturday as East Preston Football Club reached the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.

EP will travel to Ryman League North Division side Chatham Town in the next round on September 14, although they had to come from a goal down to set up the tie.

East Preston started Saturday’s game a bit shakily and the hosts went close in the opening minute, before they took a 15th-minute lead from the penalty spot.

Farmer levelled from a Darren Boswell corner on 24 minutes, before he headed home his second from a Matt Axell flag-kick on 31 minutes.

Axell made it 3-1 with a strike from the edge of the penalty area after a neat passing move two minutes later.

Colliers Wood enjoyed a lot of possession in the second half but it was EP who went closest to adding to the scoring, with Tom Levitt, Boswell and Shaheen Sadough all having chances.

East Preston manager Dominic Di Paola said: “We played well, to be honest.

“We were a bit shaky to start with for the first 20 minutes. After we’d spoken at half-time, though, and adjusted better to the way they were playing, they didn’t cause us too many problems in the second half.”
