Attacking midfielder Freddie Parker has joined the Rooks from league rivals - and new manager Tony Russell's former club - Cray Wanderers on a one-year deal.

The 20-year-old netted eight goals in 14 appearances for the Wands during last season's curtailed campaign.

Parker is the second former Cray player to join Lewes following the signing of prolific striker Joe Taylor on Monday.

The midfielder began his career with Millwall, and also had a spell with Crystal Palace, before returning to the Wands.

Parker was named Cray's Young Player of the Year in 2019 and scored 30 goals in 77 games for the Kent outfit.

Lewes boss Russell said: "Freddie is one of the best young players in non-league football for me. He played 14 games last season and still scored eight times from midfield.

"I gave him his debut at 16 and every year from that point he has just got better and better so I can't wait to continue shaping his football journey.

"If he continues to learn and grow as a person and a player, he is destined for great things, I'm sure of it."

Lewes Chair Stuart Fuller added: "I saw Freddie play a couple of times last season and was impressed with his strength and link-up play.

"He is a great all-round player and it is hard to believe he is still only 20. We look forward to seeing him in the red and black next season."
