Former Foundation player signs for Barnsley FC
A former Crawley Town Community Foundation player Lewis Gould, who played in the Football and Education programme has signed a contract with Barnsley FC’s Under-21s team. Marking a significant milestone for the Foundation and its football pathway, reinforcing its success in developing talented young players.
Gould, who was part of the 16-19 Football Education Programme, has made an impressive journey through non-league football since leaving the Foundation. After his time at the Broadfield Stadium - partnership with the Holy Trinity Sixth Form, he went on to make 100 senior appearances in the Southern Combination Premier Division with Crawley Down Gatwick, showcasing his dedication and skill on the pitch. His hard work and perseverance have paid off with this exciting professional opportunity.
The signing is the latest success story for the Foundation’s football pathway. It follows closely on the heels of fellow alumnus Will Heater, a goalkeeper who recently signed with the Crawley Town FC first-team. These achievements highlight the Foundation’s commitment to providing a clear and effective route for aspiring footballers to reach their potential.
Reflecting on his time with the Foundation, Lewis said: "I had a really enjoyable time at the Foundation, it was a really good experience and it progressed me as a player - I honestly couldn’t say a bad word. The commitment [side] is massive and that was something I learnt being with the team. My highlights were winning the National Football Youth League Championship in my first year and the Cup in the second."

These words highlight the positive impact the programme has had on Gould’s development, both as a player and as a person. The Foundation’s curriculum is designed to not only improve players technically and tactically as footballers but also instil a discipline and work ethic required to succeed at a higher level.
The Foundation's Football and Education programme combines academic study with a rigorous football schedule, offering students the chance to earn qualifications while training and competing at a high standard. This approach ensures that participants are well-equipped for life both on and off the pitch.
Gould’s progression to a contract with Barnsley FC serves as a powerful inspiration for current and future students within the programme. Demonstrating that with the right commitment, coaching, and a supportive environment, it is possible to turn a passion for football into a professional career.
Everyone at the Crawley Town Community Foundation extends their warmest congratulations to Lewis and wishes him the very best in his new chapter with Barnsley FC. His success is a testament to the quality of the Foundation's programmes and the bright future of its alumni.
