Former Leeds and Sheffield United boss appointed interim manager at Crawley Town

Crawley Town have appointed Kevin Blackwell as interim manager on a short-term basis, while the club concludes its recruitment process for a new permanent boss following the dismissal of Colin Kazim-Richards.

Blackwell will be joined by Jordan Tate, who will serve as assistant coach during this period. Together, they will take responsibility for first team training and lead the side into Saturday’s home fixture against Tranmere Rovers.

The 67-year-old brings extensive experience of English football, including managerial spells at Leeds United and Sheffield United. Blackwell as assistant to Neil Warnock, also has nine promotions and extensive experience in rescuing relegation-threatened clubs.

A spokesperson for Crawley Town’s owners KB Sports and Leisure said: “We understand our supporters’ frustration with how the season has started, and we share their determination to see Crawley move forward.

“We have made significant progress in recruiting our next permanent manager and are working hard to conclude that process. This is an important appointment for the club, and we want to give our chosen manager the best possible foundation to succeed.

“Kevin and Jordan Tate will provide experienced leadership during this short transition. Their immediate focus is preparing the players for Saturday, and they will have our full backing.

“We’re grateful to them both for stepping in and to our supporters for continuing to stand behind the team. We need everyone pulling together as we begin this next chapter.”

The club will provide a further update as soon as the permanent managerial appointment is confirmed.

Kazim-Richards’ dismissal came just hours after the Reds suffered a seventh defeat in their opening 10 league games, a 3-2 reverse at home to Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.
